Faith leaders, please add your name below to a letter urging the Governor and State legislative leaders to sign the MOU!
Earlier this year, as part of the Campaign 4 NYNY Housing, over 280 faith leaders sent a letter to Governor Cuomo and Mayor de Blasio urging them to commit to producing 35,000 units of supportive housing for New York’s most vulnerable. In his January State of the State address, Governor Cuomo committed to producing 20,000 units, adding to the 15,000 committed by Mayor de Blasio in November 2015.
Right now, all that is preventing the State from making the first real down payment on this 35,000 commitment and building the first 6,000 new units of supportive housing for the most vulnerable homeless individuals and families, is a signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Governor and the State Leadership to release the full funding for the first 6,000 units. In April, the state budget included funds for this supportive housing, but added the requirement that this MOU be developed and signed. At the close of the legislative session, the Governor and State Leaders signed an MOU releasing just $150 million in new money to address this growing need.
We are asking New York’s Faith Leaders to again make clear how deeply New York's people of faith are committed to this NY/NY Housing so that the most vulnerable among us are treated with dignity. Please add your name to the letter urging the Governor and the State Senate and Assembly leaders to SIGN THE MOU for full funding of the 6,000 units without any further delay, so we can begin to build the supportive housing desperately needed to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness for thousands of our most vulnerable neighbors.
